The Chennai Corporation has finalised the designs for the user-friendly uniforms for its sanitary workers. The designs were made by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). Corporation officials said orders for the cloth have been placed with Co-optex.
Instead of a regular shirt collar, the NIFT has recommended a ‘mandarin’ collar that would allow sweat to easily evaporate. The full-length trousers could be shortened, by folding it and fastening it with Velcro straps. Saris and salwar-kurta sets in small paisley prints have been chosen for women workers.
